[Digest] Memory of Andersen’s Fairytales
编者注:安徒生童话陪伴着不少人的童年,它没有格林童话的完美结局,更多的是一种对生活现实的写照。即使现在长大了,我们也或多或少保存着那些欣喜又悲伤的记忆。

The Little Mermaid
"Because she could not get near all these wonderful things, she longed for them all the more."
“But a mermaid has no tears, and therefore she suffers so much more.”
“Never had she danced so beautifully; the sharp knives cut her feet, but she did not feel it, for the pain in her heart was far greater.”
"She knew this was the last evening she should ever see the prince, for whom she had forsaken her kindred and her home; she had given up her beautiful voice, and suffered unheard-of pain daily for him, while he knew nothing of it. This was the last evening that she would breathe the same air with him, or gaze on the starry sky and the deep sea; an eternal night, without a thought or a dream, awaited her: she had no soul and now she could never win one."
“She laughed and danced with the thought of death in her heart.”
The Little Match Girl
“The matches glowed with a light that was brighter than the noon-day, and her grandmother had never appeared so large or so beautiful. She took the little girl in her arms, and they both flew upwards in brightness and joy far above the earth, where there was neither cold nor hunger nor pain, for they were with God.”
“How it blazed and burned! It gave out a warm, bright flame like a little candle, as she held her hands over it. A wonderful little light it was. It really seemed to the little girl as if she sat before a great iron stove with polished brass feet and brass shovel and tongs.”
The Ugly Duckling
“I will fly away to them, to the royal birds; and they will beat me, because I, that am so ugly, dare to come near them. But it is all the same. Better he killed by them than to be pursued by ducks, and beaten by fowls, and to suffer hunger in winter."
"He now felt glad at having suffered sorrow and trouble, because it enabled him to enjoy so much better all the pleasure and happiness around him. "
“To be born in a duck’s nest, in a farmyard, is of no consequence to a bird, if it is hatched from a swan’s egg.”
